Community Partners

Number of Dementia Friendly Members in the Community: 51 and growing

People with dementia don’t just lose their memories; they can also lose their friends. This is because people with dementia can start to behave in unusual ways. Sometimes those friends might not understand or know how to react. People with dementia can also have a difficult time with everyday activities, like grocery shopping, going to the bank or using transportation.

However, it is possible to live well with dementia, especially with the support of friends and dementia friendly members of our community. No matter how big, or how small, every action counts.

Anybody can BE Dementia Friendly. It’s as simple as just understanding a bit more about dementia. We will give you helpful tips and small ideas to help you support the people you know with dementia and their carers.

If you would like to learn more about what it is like to experience dementia, and understand the many ways you can help a person living with dementia, or are keen to know more how you can turn your understanding of dementia into action, participating in Westmeath’s BE Dementia Friendly campaign is for you. Join one of our upcoming sessions or contact us to find out how we can come to you and be dementia friendly.
